Neon Hitch’s story is just getting started. The British singer and songwriter is done recording her debut album, Beg, Borrow and Steal, due out Summer 2012 on Warner Bros. Records. Signed to WBR by Senior Vice President of A&R Kara DioGuardi (Fox’s American Idol, Bravo’s Platinum Hit), the Benny Blanco (Ke$ha, Wiz Khalifa, Katy Perry, Taio Cruz, Britney Spears) produced album is shaping up to be a collection of striking songs that deploy Neon's soulful, jazz-inflected vocals atop an organic backdrop of eclectic pop melodies and hip-hop tinged beats.
2011 was the year Neon Hitch began to take off. Her online profile blew up thanks to a series of well received new songs like "Bad Dog" and "Poisoned With Love" and a series of hip hop cover videos where she put her unique spin to hit songs from Kreayshawn, Wiz Khalifa, Waka Flocka Flame and Mac Miller. The New York Post is on board early; they believe “Neon Hitch has all the elements of an A-list female pop queen.” Spin.com predicts to “expect household name status by year’s end.”
2012 will be the year Neon Hitch explodes. Neon is featured on the Gym Class Heroes smash single "Ass Back Home," one of the hottest songs in the country. She’s already performed the song on The Today Show, Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, VH1’s Superbowl Fan Jam and Dick Clark’s New Years Rockin Eve. On the heels of this success, Neon is ready to unleash her debut single. Neon Hitch would like the world to know that she can "Fuck U Betta." The electric Benny Blanco produced track is the first official single off Neon's debut album Beg, Borrow and Steal, which will be out this summer.
In addition to being a great talent, Neon has an amazing back story. As a kid, she grew up on a bus, travelling the world as a trapeze artist and street performer. BBC even did a documentary on her life. At age 10, Neon began writing poetry, which led to her writing lyrics. Over the next handful of years, Neon found herself traveling with friends all over Europe, and living in squats in London while trying to pursue a singing career. In 2007, she signed to The Streets' Mike Skinner's indie label The Beats Recordings (a subsidiary of Atlantic's 679 Recordings) and went on tour with Skinner. She performed her first major show opening for rapper 50 Cent at England's Nottingham Arena before the label shut down in 2007. Since then, she's worked with artists ranging from William Orbit and Rodney Jerkins to Miike Snow (appearing on Blanco's remix of "Burial"). She also co-wrote the iTunes No. 1 single "Blah Blah Blah" on Ke$ha's No. 1 album Animal.
‘I want to be the kind of artist that people feel like they can relate to,” Neon says. “Maybe my music will make them feel a bit less lonely. They may not be able to relate to my story, but they’ll be able to relate to me as a person. The album is going to be me, inside and out, because I’m a very honest person. I’ve been through so many bad patches, but having the opportunity to do this makes it seem like it all happened for a reason. I want people to know that, yeah, times are tough, but you know what? There’s a light at the end of the tunnel. I’m living proof.”
